Lesson Plan


1.
  • Learners:My students would probably be in middle school or high school.
  •         Learning Opportunities: The student should be able to retain information better by the end of this activity.
  • Assessment: I would test them over it.

        I would begin by introducing the students to Plickers, and explaining it’s purpose. Plickers is an app for low-tech classrooms in which students are given cards that have A,B,C,D on it. The teacher will ask a question then when the students give there answer, the teacher scans the room with the phone to see who got the correct answer.
        I would then begin my lecture on the origin, weapons, and use of the Phalanx.
        After the lecture I would then ask a series of questions to see if they retained the information.

2. What would be some conceptions and pre-conceptions that students of different ages and backgrounds bring with them when learning this particular content? What would you be concerned about students' prior knowledge, experiences, motivation? Again focus on the content and your teaching strategy, not the technology!

        When it comes to history, most students assume that it is useless and that it already happened. I would be worried about their ability to be interested enough to at least try to do the work.


1. What main instructional strategies would this technology use serve in your activity? How would using the technology support the way you teach this activity? Please give examples and be specific to your described activity. Think about your main teaching strategies that this technology would support. 

        This activity, along with Plickers, would help students be able to get motivated to listen, and take notes. To be able to want to take notes instead of just fall asleep. It would also be a fun way to encourage them to do a group activity, instead of just a boring quiz.


1. How would using this technology enhance the way the content is represented in your activity (e.g. demonstrations, explanations, examples, illustrations, analogies, and etc.)? That is why you think the selection and the pedagogical use of this technology may enhance what you teach (the content in your activity). Give specific examples from your activity to support your answer and keep in mind the learning objectives that you stated previously.  

2. In what different ways students practice or understand the content in your activity that would otherwise not be possible without the use of the technology? In addition to motivational benefits,what else can students do with this technology as they are learning the content?
        When it comes to studying, most students generally do not want to do it, or they wait until the last minute. If I do this on a weekly basis, in which I do the five question quiz after every lecture Monday through Thursday and give a big test every Friday over the questions asked over the four days, this would get them in the habit of wanting to keep up. It would seer it into their brains that they need to study, or at least take notes.
